The director and writer of Squid Game just dropped a hint that season 2 of the hit might come sooner than expected. Hwang Dong-hyuk, the director and writer of the series, just told Hollywood Reporter that he is currently brainstorming different ideas during an interview session hosted by Netflix on Monday in Los Angeles.

Squid Game was released earlier in September. Since then, the Korean series has become the most watched on Netflix. The plot revolves around several Koreans that are desperate to clear off their debts. They are all desperate enough to compete for a cash prize in a series of deadly games.

Furthermore, the entire game is set up primarily for the entertainment of billionaires who place bets on different contestants. The show ended up becoming a big success, and many fans are already waiting for season 2.

Hwang has now hinted that season 2 is being worked on. However, it is still in the very early stages, and the storyline has not been fully developed yet but the basic story is already in his head but needs a lot of work.

Season one of Squid Game got an overwhelmingly positive response, with that Hwang said “you leave us no choice” but to make a second season of Squid Game.

Regarding the release of season 2, Hwang stated, “I do have a basic storyline for season two — it’s all in my head — and I am currently in the brainstorming stage,”

“It will happen, someday, but, as for when, I cannot tell you the details.”

Though, the writer and director did not give any details of what might happen in season 2 of Squid Game. Though, he did add that Seong Gi-hun, the main character from the first season, will play an important role once again.

Regarding this, he stated, “What I can say is that Gi-hun is going to be back, and he will do something for the world.”

Theories regarding season 2 of Squid Game have already started surfacing, with many people speculating that Seong Gi-hun might end up leading the games in the next season, with his new red hair being a solid hint.

A spokesperson from Netflix told the Hollywood Reporter that the company was already in discussions about a second season of Squid Game but that no decision had been made.

Until the 27th day of its release, 111 million accounts on Netflix had already watched Squid Game.

Eventually, it became the number one show in over 90 countries, which includes Australia.

Squid Game took the number one spot from Bridgerton as Netflix’s most-viewed original series, which was streamed by 82 million accounts in its first 28 days.

The Netflix drama series is actually a social commentary on contemporary South Korea, according to Hwang.

He told Variety, “I wanted to write a story that was an allegory, or fable, about modern capitalist society. Something that depicts an extreme competition, somewhat like the extreme competition of life,”

“As a survival game, it is entertainment and human drama.

“The games portrayed are extremely simple and easy to understand.”

Squid Game has certainly been a massive success. Hence, it makes sense that the showrunners would want to continue with the next season.
