The biggest Superman news of the week is that J.J. Abrams is set to produce a Superman movie reboot to be adapted by Ta-Nehisi Coates, an award-winning novelist and Black Panther comic book writer. Speaking about his new Superman project, Coates said, “I look forward to meaningfully adding to the legacy of America’s most iconic mythic hero.”

“There is a new, powerful and moving Superman story yet to be told. We couldn’t be more thrilled to be working with the brilliant Mr. Coates to help bring that story to the big screen, and we’re beyond thankful to the team at Warner Bros. for the opportunity,” said J.J. Abrams in a statement.

According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, this new Superman movie reboot is “being set up as a Black Superman story” that has roots in previous efforts as reported in the past, including the one with Michael B. Jordan planning to take on the role in 2019. No director has been attached with this Superman movie reboot yet, and the search for the new Kal-El has not yet commenced so someone like Jordan could still be in the running for the role.
