As NSW reported 177 new coronavirus cases, the Greater Sydney lockdown has been increased and will be there for four more weeks, till the end of August. NSW Premier Gladys Berejiklian confirmed it. Read on to know what else has changed.

Sydney Lockdown

New High-Risk Areas

In addition to the lockdown, the government has also identified three new LGAs, Georges River, Campbelltown, and Parramatta, as high-risk regions where coronavirus transmission is very likely. As a result, people who live in those areas are advised not to go to work unless they belong to the critical areas highlighted by the government.

Home Schooling is Back

The extension of the Greater Sydney lockdown also means that there will be another month of home-schooling for most kids. However, year 12 students in year 12 will be allowed to return to face-to-face learning from August 16. The year 12 students in eight high-risk areas identified by the government will be encouraged to participate in the Pfizer vaccination program.

Singles Bubble

The extension of Sydney lockdown can be harsh for people living by themselves. Recognizing that, the government has allowed every single person to nominate one person who can visit them. In the high-risk areas, the nominated person has to live within a 10km radius of your home and within the same LGA.

Will Lockdown be Eased Early for Some Areas?

Though the Greater Sydney lockdown comes into effect immediately, some parts of the lockdown restrictions might be relaxed earlier than scheduled. For example, regions like Wollongong and Shellharbour might see the lockdown restrictions eased early as they were doing better than others.

Construction Work Will Resume

While announcing the Sydney lockdown extension, the government shared that construction work will be allowed outside the eight high-risk LGAs. Workers who live in those LGAs aren’t allowed to leave work. For smaller projects such as renovations, the government has allowed two tradies inside a building and a maximum of five outside the building.

If you are an adult Aussie and the Sydney lockdown extension has scared you enough, you can get the AstraZeneca vaccine through a GP. You might also go for the Pfizer vaccine if you are eligible. Vaccination seems to be the only way to get out of this mess!
