Since Marvel Studios announced that they had gained rights to the characters in the X-Men comics, fans have been eager to know which mutants will appear in the MCU. One of the names fans want to add is MCU’s version of Wolverine. Earlier, there was speculation that Kingsman star Taron Egerton might play that role. Now, the actor has confirmed that he might be interested in playing the new Wolverine.

Taron Egerton – the new Wolverine?

In an interview a few months back, Egerton stated that he compared the character to James Bond. He said, “It would be exciting to play a role where you play to by such a huge audience. Those movies are the most-watched movies in the world. It’s a great thrill, and it’s a great part. But there’s no truth in it. Very flattering, though.”

Now, Egerton has confirmed that he is in talks with Marvel boss Kevin Feige to play the role. Stating clearly that he might be the new Wolverine, the talented actor stated, “I don’t think it would be wrong to say that. I’d be excited, but I’d be apprehensive as well, because Hugh is so associated with the role that I’d wonder if it’d be very difficult for someone else to do it… But hopefully, if it does come around, they’ll give me a shot.”

The consensus is that Hugh Jackman played the character perfectly in Fox’s X-Men film series. But as the actor has repeatedly expressed that he won’t play the character after doing it for 17 years, MCU needs a new Wolverine. Egerton could be a fantastic option as he and Jackman have had remarkably similar careers. Both appeared in crime-drama television shows. Jackman was seen in Correlli and Egerton in Lewis. Also, both have appeared in stage productions. Jackman was in Beauty and the Beast and Egerton in The Last of the Haussmans. After that, both landed their respective breakthrough roles.

Hugh Jackman gained much popularity as Wolverine, and Egerton’s gained fame due to his breakthrough role, Eggsy, in Kingsman: The Secret Service. So, if Egerton becomes the new Wolverine, he might get the same love as Jackman.
