Tesla is working hard to ensure that it becomes the leading electric vehicle brand in the world. The company, which had the most successful sales quarter in the last 13 years, is planning to do so via the Tesla Model 2 hatchback that will be more affordable than many of the other vehicles manufactured by the brand.

The Tesla Model 2 hatchback will go for sale in 2023 and build on the success achieved by Tesla model 3. The starting price of the model could be as low as US$25,000 (A$33,000). If that happens, it will be the most affordable EV by Tesla as it is cheaper than Tesla 3.

One of the reasons why the Tesla Model 2 hatchback will be affordable is that it will have a new battery technology that is being developed by the company of Elon Musk. As per data, the use of this new technology might reduce manufacturing costs by up to 50%. In addition, it might also provide up to 16% more range for every charge and up to five times more energy.

The battery technology that will probably be used in Tesla Model 2 was first discussed last year at the brand’s Battery Day. At that time, the CEO of the company, Elon Musk, had stated, “One of the things that troubles me the most is that we don’t have a truly affordable car, and that’s something we will have in the future. For that, we need cheaper batteries.”

As Tesla Model 2 is expected to be a global model, it will be released in Australia after a launch in the US, Europe, or China. If the previous release pattern of the Tesla 3 model is followed, it might take up to two years before the car is launched in Australia. So, if the car is launched in 2023 in the US, it might come to Australia in 2025.

It is also likely that the Tesla Model 2 that is to be delivered in Australia might be built in the Shanghai Gigafactory of the brand.
