The Futuristic Hyperion XP-1 is the First Hydrogen Fuel Cell Supercar

It can echarge in 5 minutes and has 1,609 km range

Hyperion XP-1 is the hydrogen fuel cell supercar that was unveiled on Wednesday. It has a range of 1,609 km and claimed 0-100 time of 2.2 seconds. The claimed top speed is more than 354 km/h. It weighs around 1.03 tonnes and will be launched in early 2022. Only 300 models of this supercar are planned as of now.

In addition to the impressive stats, one more thing that makes Hyperion XP-1 attention-worthy is that it’s trying to make a case for effective hydrogen fuel cell technology. Hyperion, a company founded in 2011 stated that it would build out a hydrogen filling station network to help the buyers of Hyperion XP-1 to get a refill. However, the network would have few gas stations that would be located at a wide distance as the supercar has a massive range.

The company wants to ensure that Hyperion promotes hydrogen that is better than battery electric in the long run as the cars are lighter. Hydrogen is more abundant than many fossil fuels and is scalable into other forms of transportation like semi-trucks, trains, planes, etc.

Have a closer look at the Hyperion XP-1 below:

The main problem is that it’s too expensive. The CEO of Hyperion says that Hyperion XP-1 is more of an educational tool than a cool new supercar. He said, “What we think is most critical to the industry right now is delivering a message through a product, the Hyperion XP-1, which is a vehicle that is an educational tool to show the world the wonderful benefits of hydrogen.”

He added “Hyperion has no intention to be only a manufacturer of supercars or anything in that way. The XP-1 is an educational tool, and there will be further models that are more affordable down the line. But primarily we want to build the penultimate version of what a hydrogen vehicle could be, and then explain to the world why, through the car, it was so wonderful.”

Though the pricing of Hyperion XP-1 was not revealed, probably, most of us won’t be able to afford this EV supercar.
