The 2022 Lamborghini Countach is more like a tribute to the original Countach from the 70s. Back in 1971 when the Countach LP500 prototype was unveiled, the vehicle quickly caught the attention of car enthusiasts throughout the world.

“The Countach LPI 800-4 is a visionary car of the moment, just as its forerunner was,” Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini CEO, said in a statement. “[The car] pays homage to this Lamborghini legacy but it is not retrospective: it imagines how the iconic Countach of the 70s and 80s might have evolved into an elite super sports model of this decade.”

The original Lamborghini Countach LP400 from 1874 had a 3.9-liter V12 engine capable of delivering 276 kW. At that time, it was among the most powerful vehicles in the market. On the other hand, the 2022 Lamborghini Countach employs the Aventador, delivering 599 kW due to the 6.5-liter V12 engine along with a 48-volt hybrid system.

Perhaps, the most notable thing about the 2022 Lamborghini Countach is the unique shape. It takes heavy inspiration from the prototype of the 70s. In particular, the LED headlights in rectangular shape bear a stark resemblance with the original model.

The iconic wedge shape in combination with the raised intakes, NACA ducts, and angular side scoops are also quite notable. This new Lamborghini Countach features hexagonal taillights at its rear in combination with 4 exhaust tips that connect to the exhaust system. According to the Chief Technical Officer at Lamborghini, Maurizio Reggiani, this significantly enhances the engine noise of the V12.

In other words, the new Lamborghini Countach offers the best of both new and old worlds by combining an old-school look with a modern naturally aspirated V12 engine with a 6.5-liter capacity. The new supercapacitor system further allows for extra boosts under acceleration and between gear shifting.

The supercapacitor system used in this new Lamborghini Countach was first seen in the 2019 Sian. In comparison to a regular lithium-ion battery, it provides up to 3 times more power. And that too, while weighing only 34 KG.

The drive is sent to all four wheels through a seven-speed automated manual transmission, enabling the 2022 Countach a 0-100km/h time of 2.8 seconds, 0-200km/h time of 8.6 seconds, and an impressive top speed of 355km/h.

The lightweight wheels are wrapped in 255mm (front) and 355mm (rear) Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres, and hide 400mm six-piston front and 380mm four-piston rear carbon-ceramic brakes that can do 100km/h to zero stop in 30m.

Other notable features of the Lamborghini Countach chassis include rear-wheel steering, multiple driving modes, and adaptive dampers. Without fluids, the dry weight of the vehicle is around 1595 KG due to the carbon-fiber body and a lightweight supercapacitor system.
