The Last of Us TV Series Announced and to be Created by HBO

Chernobyl’s creator and the game’s writer will be on-board

One of the most popular and critically acclaimed video games in the history of video games, The Last of Us will soon be turned into a TV series by HBO. It was announced on Thursday by the premium cable network. The news made the fans of the game very happy, and they expressed it via various social media platforms.

 

HBO will create The Last of Us TV series in conjunction with PlayStation Productions and Sony Pictures Television. The game revolves around the story of Joel, who is a divorced single father and a smuggler. He has to smuggle a 14-year old girl, Ellie across the post-apocalyptic United States. The duo struggles to stay alive in a dystopian world that is ravaged due to the outbreak of a deadly disease that transforms people into murderous monsters. It may make some people think of “infected” wretches in “28 Days Later.”

The Last of Us was launched in 2013 on the PlayStation 3 and became one of the bestselling titles of the year. The fans and the critics were impressed by the harsh and dramatic themes as well as the cinematic gameplay. Another version of the game that had better graphics was released the next year on PlayStation 4.

 

The Last of Us will be brought to life by Chernobyl writer and executive producer Neil Druckmann and executive producer Craig Mazin. In an email statement, Druckmann shared his experience. He said, “From the first time I sat down to talk with Craig, I was equally blown away by his approach to narrative and his love and deep understanding of ‘The Last of Us”. With ‘Chernobyl,’ Craig and HBO created a tense, harrowing, emotional masterpiece. I couldn’t think of better partners to bring the story of ‘The Last of Us’ to life as a television show.”

HBO also released in an email statement in which it was mentioned that The Last of Us TV series is still under development and didn’t share a release date.

 

HBO also has a considerable responsibility to please the audience with The Last of Us as there have been many successful video game adaptions already like Sonic the Hedgehog, Detective Pikachu and Netflix’s The Witcher.
