The SSC Tuatara of SSC North America, an American automobile manufacturer, has officially obliterated the record for the world’s fastest production car. The hypercar has recorded an average speed of 508.73km/h over two dream-like runs on State Route 160 in Nevada on Saturday 10 October 2020.

The SSC hypercar was driven by Oliver Webb, a popular British Racing Driver on an 11km stretch of the highway that was closed for a while due to this attempt at the world record. During the first run, the top speed was 484.53 km/h while the return run broke the record at 532.93km/h. The latter secured the official world record.

It must be noted here that to claim the record of being the world’s faster production car, two runs in the vehicle must be completed within an hour. One in each direction is mandatory. The two-run average of the hypercar was 508,73km/h. It shattered the previous record of 447km/h that was previously held by the Koenigsegg Agera RS.

Webb’s run also drove the hypercar to grab a few other world records like Fastest Flying Kilometre on a Public Road at 517.16km/h and Fastest Flying Mile on a Public Road at 503.92km/h. The race car driver admitted that he could have gone even faster with SSC Tuatara. He said “There was definitely more in there. And with better conditions, I know we could have gone faster, as I approached 331mph (532km/h), the Tuatara climbed almost 20mph (32km/h) within the last five seconds. The car wasn’t running out of steam yet. The crosswinds are all that prevented us from realising the car’s limit.”

For those of you who aren’t familiar with this hypercar, it weighs about 1247 kg. It is powered by a twin-turbo 5.9-litre flat-plane crank V8 that has the capacity of making either 1007kW at 6800rpm by using regular fuel or an astonishing 1305kW at 8800rpm on the incredibly special E85. The Torque of this stunning car is rated 1735Nm at 6800rpm.

This hypercar has 20-inch carbon-forged wheels that are wheels shod in Michelin Pilot Ultra Sport 2 rubber which measures 345/35 YR20 at the back and 245/35 YR20 at the front. The drive is sent to the rear wheels thanks to an amazing seven-speed automated manual transmission that is operated by paddle shifters.
