The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent — Yet once again, Nicolas Cage is topping the trends. It is common for different celebrities to start trending after a talk show appearance or an interview. However, Nicolas Cage trends far too often compared to the other actors. This time, the actor went viral after talking about Hoogan, his pet crow. After that, he stated, “I am a goth,” in a Los Angeles Times interview.

This was followed by fan-made images of Nicolas Cage in black lipstick and dark eye makeup. Many memes and jokes also surfaced. One can safely say that Cade has yet, once again, giving us some high-quality meme material.

Most people who spend time on the internet have either grown up watching Nicolas Cage movies or following trends. Tom Gormical, the director and writer of The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent starring Nicolas Cage wonders when the meme treatment really began. According to him, Nicolas Cage has a very professional and polite attitude on set.

The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent features Cage, who plays his own fictionalized role. The fictionalized Cage in the movie goes through financial stress and a slumping career. This causes him to accept a check worth a million dollars after attending a rich fan’s birthday.

However, it turns out that the rich fan is a crime boss whom the CIA is trying to get hold of. This leads to Cage getting roped in operation led by the CIA to take down the super-rich crime boss. In a way, Cage is forced to channel some of the characteristics of his popular roles.

The meta-comedy film embraces several aspects of Cage’s real-life and revisits some notable personas on-screen that led to him becoming an icon. According to Gormican, when he wrote the script for the movie, he had no backup plan in his mind. The director has admitted that the entire project revolves around the willingness of the actor to poke fun at himself.

Regarding this, Gormican stated, “you don’t know what someone is going to be game for, and we didn’t pull any punches.” However, a blend between the fictional Nicolas Cage and the real Cage resulted in some clashes. Cage would often mention that the real persona would not say some dialogues. However, whenever such a clash would occur, Gormican would remind Cage that he was playing a character.

Nicolas Cage is known for his restrained performances in movies like Leaving Las Vegas. However, the audience is more inclined towards the actor’s presence when he plays unstable or manic characters, such as in Adaptation.

Gormican explained, “There’s a particular shot in the movie that I took from Leaving Las Vegas where he’s at the bottom of the pool, drinking, and it’s Nic’s lowest point in our movie. He further mentioned, “and that [earlier role] was the highest point in his career. I was describing the scene on set. And I said, ‘So, you’re going to go to the bottom of the pool and that’s how you’re going to be…’ And he was like, ‘Tom, Tom, Tom. I know. I’ve already done it’.”

Gormican mentioned that he is obsessed with the anxious and neurotic persona that Nicolas Cage plays. Regarding this, he stated, “I don’t know that there’s anybody who plays neurotic or anxious better than Nicolas Cage. I love it.” He further added, “Neurotic Cage is the best Cage.”

Of course, audiences know what Nicolas Cage is capable of, especially when he is playing a neurotic character. However, for some years in the latter part of the last decade, it seemed as if the marquee status of Nicolas Cage had been left behind.

Overall, the actor’s career is no less than a pendulum. It sometimes swings further to the left. However, fans are always ready to embrace the swing to the right as well. Formican further mentioned that Cage is now doing more movies than he has done before. According to him, Nicolas Cage is an actor with a great amount of goodwill. He hopes that this innate quality will push is talent much further.

Nevertheless, Cage fans are quite excited as the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent has already been released in Australia on 21st April 2022.
