But even the hard-core watch lovers have not even dreamed of a watch that will be sold for US$7.3 million (about AU$10 million). It has happened. A Grande et Petite Sonnerie was just named as the most expensive watch ever sold as it was sold for AU$10 million.

 

The Philippe Dufour watch is one of the top ten priciest timepieces that were sold in public. It became the most expensive watch to be sold to date on Monday. The most expensive watch was sold via A Collected Man. It is an exclusively approved re-seller of pre-owned independent watchmakers and provides a bespoke service to watch collectors across the globe.

 

 

One of the main reasons the watch grabbed the title of being the most expensive individual watch ever is its rarity. Philippe Dufour crafted only eight watches. It is the third watch that was sold in all these years.

 

Another thing that helped the watch be the most expensive one is the fact that it was made in 1995 for the Sultan of Brunei. The Philippe Dufour watch was last seen in public about 10 years back.

The Philippe Dufour watch strikes on the hour and each quarter while it also repeats the hour if the Petite Sonnerie or Grande mode is activated. These modes can be activated by using a selector slide which is cleverly hidden under the hinged bezel of the watch.

Though this Philippe Dufour watch is labelled the most expensive watch to be sold to date, it is not the first watch by the brand that was sold at an amazingly high price. Only last year, a Philippe Dufour Simplicity fetched US$ 1.5 million (about AU$ 2.06 million) at an auction.
