Have you ever imagined flying from London to New York in just 3.5 hours? No? Well, this is going to be a reality, thanks to a new supersonic jet that will be commercially ready by 2028. Spike Aerospace, a US-based manufacturer, will manufacture the jet, and it will cut the times of cross-Atlantic times in half.

What’s unique about this new invention is that it will probably reduce the time to just 1.5 hours in the next decade. The travel speed of the new supersonic jet is Mach 1.6, which translates to 1227 mph or 1974 kmph. This speed is similar to the classic Concorde that made its debut in 1976. The Concorde was a marvel at that time and demonstrated modern aero engineering by cutting the travel times by half for long haul flights at that time.

The classic Concorde was discontinued in 2003. One of its drawbacks was that it used a lot of carbon dioxide. The new supersonic jet uses three times less carbon dioxide and has low conic boom levels. It also has shared a commitment to a Zero carbon flight by the year 2040.

Talking about the new supersonic jet, the CEO and Founder of Spike Aerospace, Vik Kachoria, said, “From the beginning of time, people have wanted to travel places faster. Getting places faster means increased opportunities. Whether that’s riding a camel instead of walking or flying across the Atlantic in six hours rather than spending four weeks on a steamship. But imagine a six-hour flight becoming a three-hour flight. That’s what supersonic offers.”

Sharing plans for noise reduction, he added, “The Concorde was ridiculously noisy. Most conversations between two people are between 65 and 75 decibels, and the noise level found within most plane cabins is around 85 decibels. Not quite a vacuum cleaner, but not far off. Our windowless aircraft will be about 60 decibels, so lower than the sound of a conversation. No noise-cancelling headphones required.”

The new supersonic jet looks good from the inside thanks to a large seating area which can be converted to a dining area or beds. It also has flat-screen TVs, better oxygen levels, enhanced structural integrity and no windows. It only has 18 seats on a flight so people who like international travel with a minimal company would like to travel in it.

The launch of this new supersonic jet is also a sign that things are getting back to normal. No doubt that COVID vaccine drives in multiple countries is also helping in making things normal again. In other news, Aston Martin is going to participate in an F1 race after six decades.
