The parent company of the popular app TikTok, ByteDance, is selling the AI of the video-sharing app to other companies. For this, it has a new division known as BytePlus that is handling the transactions. The website of the brand says that the client list of companies that have bought the AI includes several names like WeGo- a Singapore travel site, Chilibeli- an Indonesian shopping app, Goat- a US fashion app, and GamesApp, an Indian social gaming platform.

TikTok AI and Algorithm

The recommendation algorithm of TikTok is the key why the app is so successful. How a person uses TikTok affects what video recommendations they get. In a blog post last year, the company explained how the ForYou feed works. The recommendations that are shown are based on user interactions like the videos you like, comment on, share or create. It is also based on video information like hashtags and captions, along with device and account settings. Examples of the latter include what device you are using to access TikTok, your location settings, and your language preferences.

BytePlus lets customers not just access the recommendation algorithm that is a key part of the TikTok app, it also allows them to personalize it to suit their apps and customers. It also offers automated speech and text translations. It also provides data analytics tools and video effects.

Though the move by ByteDance is an unexpected one, it is not the only company to do so. BytePlus is entering a marketplace that is already crowded and has to compete against AI services from brands like Google, IBM, Alibaba, Tencent, Baidu, Amazon Web Services, and Microsoft, among others.

Still, TikTok’s AI will likely be sold and bought with enthusiasm as the app is popular worldwide and has reached the masses with ease. Other app makers would want the same for their apps too. By the time of writing this piece, ByteDance had not replied to a request for comment.
