So, what comes to your mind when somebody mentions Tom Ford? Chances are that you would not think of plastic. However, now you may want to reconsider your thoughts.

Now, this American designer launches the Tom Ford 002 Ocean Plastic Watch, a unique timepiece that is made from the plastic collected from oceans. While it may sound absurd, the ideas behind this watch are certainly noteworthy.

You see, according to climate and environment experts, it is difficult to figure out the amount of plastic debris that goes into the ocean. According to estimates from 2010 alone, waste weighing more than 8 million metric tons went into the sea.

And we can only expect this number to have risen already. This is no less than a tragedy for the environment. And apparently, Tom Ford seems to understand that.

The Tom Ford 002 Ocean Plastic Watch is the first luxury timepiece that is made from 100% ocean plastic. And every single watch is worth 35 plastic bottles taken out of the ocean. So, in a way, buyers of this watch are doing a favor to the environment.

Previously in September, there was a small tease of the watch. However, now it is ready for a launch. Regarding the watch, Ford mentioned in a statement, “Sustainability is a key issue in our lives right now”.

Ford further stated, “In particular, the amount of ocean plastic that we are generating is perhaps taking the greatest toll on our environment of all. For every 1000 Ocean Plastic Timepieces, we produce and sell, we permanently remove and prevent 490 pounds of plastic waste from entering the ocean.”

This luxury plastic watch features a 40mm round case made of plastic. With that, the straps on this watch also come from the same plastic fibers.

Along with this watch, he has also announced The Tom Ford Plastic Innovation Prize, an initiative where ideas will all be vetted for their ability to help the environment ensuring they are scalable and market-ready by 2025. The total purse of this initiative is $1 Million.

Apparently, Tom Ford is going one step ahead for the environment’s protection. In other watch news, MB&F has recently unveiled their HM3 FrogX.
