UFC FIGHTER CONOR MCGREGOR ANNOUNCES RETIREMENT AGAIN FROM THE SPORT

One of the most popular UFC fighters of the recent times, Conor McGregor has announced retirement from the sport this Sunday via a Tweet. It isn’t a big shock for his fans as he has announced retirement in 2016 and 2019 as well, but both times he couldn’t resist the sport for long.

Conor McGregor, who is also a former two-division UFC champion, shared a photo of him and his mother. He captioned it by writing “Hey guys I’ve decided to retire from fighting. Thank you all for the amazing memories! What a ride it’s been! Here is a picture of myself and my mother in Las Vegas post one of my World title wins! Pick the home of your dreams Mags I love you! Whatever you desire it’s yours. ️”

The announcement comes a few months after the Irish sports star had revitalized his career in January this year during a match against Donald “Cowboy” Cerrone at UFC 246.

The sudden retirement announcement from Conor McGregor might have put UFC president Dana White in a tough spot. He had stated that McGregor was next in line for a title shot at the winner of Justin Gaethje bout with lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov’s that is scheduled for this summer. Conor McGregor had also been in talks with White regarding another fight. He even shared some training photos and videos to prepare for the fights even this week.

White supported Conor McGregor’s decision of retirement and said “If Conor McGregor feels he wants to retire, you know my feelings about retirement. You should absolutely do it. And I love Conor. … There’s a handful of people that have made this really fun for me, and he’s one of them.”

Though Conor McGregor’s retirement is a setback, this isn’t the first time a fighter has announced retirement suddenly. Everyone from Floyd Mayweather to Muhammad Ali to Chuck Liddell to Tito Ortez has announced retirements and then gone back to the sport because they love it or because of their ego. Even Conor McGregor has done it twice. So, no one will be surprised if he does that third time as well. Fans are just keeping their fingers crossed!
