The Volkswagen ID.4 Electric car just bagged the 2021 World Car of the year award. The first car to win this award was Audi A6, back in 2005. Ever since that time, the annual award ceremony nominates several cars in various categories.

The categories include urban, design, performance, and luxury. Along with that, there is one overall winner that surpasses all other cars in the aforementioned categories. For some, it might be surprising that the Volkswagen ID.4 has bagged the annual award for 2021.

The Volkswagen ID.4

According to some people, the Volkswagen ID.4 is a true revolution. This car blends together electric power into a totally family-friendly SUV. Though, it might take a while for this car to show up in Australia, as Volkswagen is prioritizing countries where the emission reduction targets are rather strict.

In this regard, a Volkswagen Australia representative dubbed the Volkswagen ID.4 car as “the ideal vehicle to commence the brand’s zero-emission roll out in Australia”.

He also further added, “Volkswagen has no choice but to prioritize markets that have significant financial penalties for not achieving (vehicle emissions) targets.”

Apart from the Volkswagen ID.4, some other cars won in different categories too. For instance, the Honda E electric car won in the World Urban Car category. At the same time, the Land Rover Defender 4WD won in the “World Car Design of the Year” category. On the other hand, the Porsche 911 Turbo and Mercedes Benz S-class limo won in the “World Performance Car” and “World Luxury Car” categories, respectively.

Though, this is not the first time a Volkswagen car has bagged the award. The carmaker has won this award 4 times already, so, this happened to be the 5th win. Along with that, this is the third electric vehicle ever to win in the overall category.

Previously, the Nissan Leaf and Jaguar I-Pace won in 2015 and 2019, respectively. According to the company, the Volkswagen ID.4 car will first be sold in the US, China, and Europe markets. After that, the carmaker will consider introducing it in other regions.

In other news, Audi also pushing hard on its development in the electric cars market, with the Audi A6 E-Tron being planned for 2022.
