We will See a Conor McGregor vs. Manny Pacquiao Fight Next Year

Philippines’ boxing champion Manny Pacquiao confirms that the match with Irish MMA fighter Conor McGregor will happen next year, the special assistant of Pacquiao said in a statement earlier.

“For the sake of all the Filipino Covid-19 victims, Senator Manny Pacquiao will be fighting UFC superstar Conor McGregor next year,” Pacquiao’s chief of staff and business partner Jayke Joson said, adding that negotiations are now ongoing.

The boxing match could be staged in the Middle East after the coronavirus pandemic subsides, Joson said, also adding that Manny Pacquiao would donate a portion of his purse to Filipinos who fell victims to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Sean Gibbons, Pacquiao’s promoter , earlier stated to AFP in Los Angeles that the eight-division world champion was mulling over a possible fight comeback with Conor McGregor, although the two camps were a “long way” from a formal agreement.

Earlier, the 32-year old Conor McGregor, said on Twitter that he was “boxing Manny Pacquiao next in the Middle East.”

“It will be a true honour to have faced two of the greatest boxers of the modern era,” then McGregor added.

The 41- year old, Pacquiao has not fought since claiming the WBA welterweight crown with an impressive victory over Keith Thurman in Las Vegas, Nevada in July last year.

A boxing match against Conor McGregor, who faced welterweight king Floyd Mayweather in a profitable 2017 fight, would absolutely guarantee Pacquiao another lucrative payday as he nears the end of his prestigious boxing career.

“Our lawyers are finalising all the confidential details, but both fighters are getting ready for this one epic last boxing fight,” Joson said.

Gibbons said McGregor has already displayed in his fight with welterweight king Floyd Mayweather back in 2017 that the Irishman was capable of going after “the best boxers in the world”.

Pacquiao has successfully combined his career in politics in the Philippines, as an elected senator, while continuing his passion to box at the highest level.

“His main focus right now is to help here and there, providing relief, shelter, money and food, among other necessities,” Joson said.

The COVID-19 has infected around 200,000 of the population in the Philippines and reported that it claimed the lives of more than 5,000 individuals.
