Wearing Streetwear Like a Man Should

They’re not just for kids, mates.

With today’s more relaxed dress codes, and companies trying to ease up the “corporate clown” look to attract younger people, Streetwear is now the go-to wardrobe choice for working adults out there. Ever recall the humble beginnings of brands like Vans, Supreme, or Adidas? Thanks to today’s trends these are now multi billion dollar franchises. Just like these brands are turning into adulthood so are you, so here’s how to don streetwear like a man. It will make you less of a skater boy and more of a Tony Hawk.

Nowadays streetwear is a fashion statement instead of protective gear like the denims and heavy cottons of yore. You can mix and match hoodies, cargo trousers, trainers and track pants made of materials like cashmere or jersey with classic pieces like straight cut denims, baseball caps, work boots or Chuck Taylors.

For the kids, the hype means everything. They tend to show off brands garishly and look like walking ads for the brand they wear. Grown ups should fly a bit lower, wearing stripped back and easy going wares. Also wear innovative labels that are tucked away and minimal but stick to what you like and what works for you. If you have to wear a big statement or logo, balance it out with something plain to avoid looking like a lookbook. At the end of the day, Rocking streetwear like a man is about not screaming about where the outfit is from, but you should be asked this question instead.

In work, you can wear your sneakers with a relaxed suit or chinos, or roll up your buttoned up shirt sleeves and pair it with straight denims and sneakers.

A great pair of shoes is the lynchpin of the entire attire. Instead of paying jacked-up prices for Yeezys or the latest Off-White collaboration, opt for sneakers that will last as long as your brogues by looking for kicks that prioritize build quality like Doc Martins, or Vans. The great thing too is that the lines between luxury fashion and streetwear have blurred so much you can look good on the cheap.

Loose. But not baggy

Teenage boys want to look bigger than they are so they usually go for the oversized bomber jackets and baggy cargos. For grown men especially those in the dad bod phase this will end up making you look like a creep. Good thing is that donning streetwear like a man is for all walks of life and has many options for us. The best pants to go for are straight leg or slim fits for the lankier adults and a cropped jacket and plain tee to even out the looseness.
