There is no doubt that Top Gun: Maverick Is one of the blockbusters you can’t miss watching. The sequel to 1986 Top Gun has done pretty well. It also has gotten stellar reviews from all over the globe. So obviously, the fans are asking whether there will be a Top Gun 3 or not. Here we are trying to figure that out.

One interesting titbit we found about Top Gun: Maverick is that Tom Cruise might not have even starred in it. While talking to a famous magazine in 1990, he stated that he might not return to play the role again. He stated, “Some people felt that Top Gun was a right-wing film to promote the Navy. And a lot of kids loved it. But I want the kids to know that that’s not the way war is—that Top Gun was just an amusement park ride, a fun film with a PG-13 rating that was not supposed to be reality. That’s why I didn’t go on and make Top Gun II and III and IV and V. That would have been irresponsible.”

Clearly, time changes everything because now Tom Cruise has given another stellar performance in Top Gun: Maverick.

Most film enthusiasts know that Top Gun: Maverick has done pretty well regarding earnings. It has already earned US$ 124 million in the US and about US$ 248 million at the worldwide box office over the weekend.

Will There be Top Gun 3?

Although there is no official plan for a third Top Gun film,, its’ already has been teased. In an interview with Indie Wire Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell (Hangman) said there has to be decent ground for a Top Gun 3, stating “there’s no reason in just adding another movie to the filmography of the world, if it doesn’t contribute or beat the original.”

“If we can figure out more crazy things to do with aeroplanes or a story that is compelling and emotional and adventurous and romantic and all those things like, I am sure Tom would be down.”, he adds.

But when asked whether there will be a Top Gun 3 film, Producer Jerry Bruckheimer said there’s nothing immediate. He said, “Let’s ride this wave.”

Even Paramount and the team behind Top Gun: Maverick haven’t shared anything about Top Gun 3. We think that a trilogy is needed to extend the storylines of a fleet of new pilots, including Monica Barbaro’s Phoenix, Miles Teller’s Rooster, Jay Ellis’s Payback, Glen Powell’s Hangman, and Danny Ramirez’s Fanboy. We just hope it won’t take another 36 years to create it!
