World’s Billionaires’ Wealth Increased USD 1.9 (AUD 2.49) Trillion in 2020

This has increased the total wealth of the world’s billionaires’ to about USD 11.4 trillion

Though 2020 has been a tough year for humanity due to reasons like the coronavirus crisis and the global economic slowdown, world’s billionaires’ wealth saw an increase of USD 1.9 (about AUD 2.49) trillion in 2020 according to Forbes. This has increased the total wealth of the world’s billionaires’ to about USD 11.4 (about AUD 14.94) trillion. This figure also rose by 20% as compared to the last year.

 

About 600 of these world’s billionaires reside in the US, and their total worth is about USD 4 (About AUD 5.24) trillion. This amount is almost double than the wealth of billionaires in China. However, China outperformed the US when you look at how much money was accumulated by the country’s billionaires in the last 12 months. The increase was USD 750 (About AUD 983) billion as compared to the wealth of USA billionaires, that stood at USD 560 (About AUD 734) billion. France got the third position as its total billionaire wealth was USD 500 (About AUD 655) billion, and it grew by just USD 95 (About AUD 124) billion.

 

Elon Musk is leading the list of world’s billionaires when it comes to growing the personal fortunes by billionaires. His wealth grew from USD 27 (about AUD 35) billion to USD 137 (about AUD 179) billion in just 12 months. Jeff Bezos was also on the list of world’s billionaires who grew their wealth as his wealth increased by about USD 67.5 (about AUD 88) billion, and he still has USD 182 (about AUD 238) billion to his name.

The owner of LVMH, Bernard Arnault, also had a lucrative year despite the hardships like store closings and lockdowns faced by his businesses in 2020.

 

This year was not just good for the existing world’s billionaires, it was also good for many people who became billionaires recently. The names include Tyler Perry, Jared Isaacman, Stéphane Bancel along with two investors of his biotech firm and three co-founders of DoorDash. Isaacman is a fighter jet flyer and a businessman, Perry is a Hollywood mogul, and Bancel is the CEO of Moderna, the firm that is working on COVID-19 vaccine.
