Gone are the days when horse racing was limited to real racecourses only. Now, virtual racing seems to be the trend. Zed Run, an online game based on digital ownership of horses, is getting more popularity than anyone would have thought. Read on for the details.

Zed Run is not just about owning digital horses. It is also about breeding them and racing. It is created by an Australian studio, Virtually Human, that launched Zed Run in early 2019. Fast forward two years, and now it is selling 4450 digital horses for AUD 30 each.

Till the time of writing this article, about 11,000 horses are sold, and 8,000 are bred across 3,600 digital stables. The cost of the digital horses that often participate in horse racing is rising. Some horses like Floyd Mayweather Jr are selling for as high as AUD 19,335. One of them has even sold for AUD 161, 125.

Zed Run works by using the NFT technology. The digital horses that participate in horse racing often look like unfinished and raw assets from old Nintendo RPG. They can be differentiated by various factors like breed types and bloodlines.

As horse racing odds are not revealed in the game, the users need to figure out their own way based on the length and history of the races. As per Chris Ebeling, the co-founder of Virtually Human, factors like digital track location and weather conditions can also impact the results of these digital horse racing events.

Many horse racing events are organized every hour across six classes that are based on experience and records of the horses. As per Zed Run member Rahul Sood, “The idea of ownership changes the dynamic.” The company wants to let speculators join in and bet on the races. It is seeking approval from regulators on the same.

The concept of Zed Run is pretty simple. An owner needs to pay entry fees to be a part of horse racing. The prize pool ranges from only a few dollars to a couple of hundred dollars. The races are pretty standard, but the horses are unique. They are digital NFT horses. Talking about cryptocurrency trends, have you heard about the new cryptocurrency, SafeMoon?
