Elon Musk has confirmed that his Neuralink start-up is currently working on a unique brain-computer interface that will allow a wearer to stream music directly to their brain. He revealed some information via Twitter, and more will be coming in the next month.

While responding to Austin Howard, a computer scientist on Twitter, Elon Musk confirmed that the Neuralink’s unique technology would let people “listen to music directly from our chips.” He also added that Neuralink “could help control hormone levels and use them to our advantage (enhanced abilities and reasoning, anxiety relief, etc.)”

Though Elon Musk’s Neuralink has existed since 2016, it has held just one major public presentation regarding how the technology is expected to work. During the 2019 event, Elon Musk had stated that his company was currently working on a “sewing machine-like” device, which would offer a direct connection between a computer and a chip that will be inserted within the brain.

The unique technology would first be used for people who have brain diseases like Parkinson’s, but later on, it will be used to ensure that humans can compete with advanced artificial intelligence.

Elon Musk also said that having the chip fitted would be similar to how Lasik laser eye surgery is performed. One part would involve a neurosurgical robot that will fit its flexible threads into the brain. It will be connected to a tiny and implantable computer chip.

Neuralink currently has 11 job postings on its website, which includes roles like robotics software engineer and histology technician.

Over the weekend, Elon Musk, who also owns SpaceX and Tesla, requested people with expertise in wearables to consider working for Neuralink. He tweeted, “If you’ve solved hard problems with phones/ wearables (sealing, signal processing, inductive charging, power management, etc.), please consider working at [Neuralink].”

Earlier this month, Elon Musk also said that Neuralink’s chip would help cure issues like depression and addiction by retraining those parts of a brain that are usually responsible for such afflictions. Animal trials on this technology have begun, and human trials are planned for later this year.

More information regarding Elon Musk’s Neuralink will be shared on August 28. Check back with us to know what Musk has in store for the human brain.
