Marvel Studios has released the trailer of the upcoming Thor film Thor: Love & Thunder, and it has many surprises for fans. The film will see Natalie Portman’s Jane Foster as Thor with the ability to pick up Mjolnir and the return of Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie. However, the trailer didn’t give a glimpse of the film’s main villain, Gorr. Read more about the interesting trailer below.

Thor: Love & Thunder will pick up after Avengers’ Endgame. Thor left with the Guardians of the Galaxy. So, those characters will obviously appear in the film. A lot is known about the film, thanks to titbits offered by director Taika Waititi since July 2019, when the movie was announced. For instance, he shared that the film will be based on content from Jason Aaron’s Mighty Thor comics, in which Jane Foster picked up Mjolnir and gained Thor’s powers while battling cancer.

According to the synopsis of the film, Thor chooses retirement after the events of Avengers: Endgame but has to return when Gorr decides to kill gods. He has no choice but to join his former friends and allies to fight Gorr. Christian Bale will play the role of Gorr the God Butcher in the film.

After the trailer was released, director Taika Waititi joked that it was the entire movie. He also said that film’s release date is July 8, 1986, which gets the right month and date but gives the MCU movie the release year of Highlander, which is a big inspiration for the talented director.

Gorr’s absence from the trailer is also interesting. In fact, the trailer made no real reference to any villain at all. This is part of the ongoing trend set by Marvel to build anticipation for a film. The emphasis is more on the personal journey of Thor. Christian Bale’s MCU villain will likely be unveiled just a few days before the film is released. For those unaware, the film is expected to hit the theatres in Australia on July 7, 2022.
