Maserati has switched gears after a hundred years by launching the first-ever electric vehicle, the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid, on Thursday. It’s a new riff on the popular and classic sports sedan by the company that was unveiled during the Shanghai Motor show in 2013. This next-gen model has gotten a minor facelift and has a hybrid powertrain.

The setup of the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid includes a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine and a 48-volt alternator. It also has a small battery that is mounted on the back of the car. This setup produces 330 hp and 332 ft-lbs of torque that will ensure that the car goes from 0 to 62 miles per hour in just 6.7 seconds and reaches the top speed of 158 miles per hour.

The 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid is more fuel-efficient and will be friendlier to earth. It will emit 25 percent less carbon dioxide than the petrol-only version and will be 176 pounds lighter than its predecessor. The 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid will also have the distinctive roar that makes the brand stand apart from the rest.

The look of 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid also feels fresher as the rear end has revamped and reshaped taillights that are shaped like a boomerang and are inspired by the 3200 GT and Alfieri concept. Maserati has also upgraded the front with new headlights and an updated grille.

The company has decided to add a blue hue to the 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid’s exterior accents like air ducts, logo on the rear pillar, and brake callipers as well as the interior like blue seams in order to represent its electric cars. The infotainment system of 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid has also been upgraded as the screen is 10.1 inches and runs by using the latest Android Automotive operating system.

The production of 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid will start in September 2020, and the first cars will hit the global showrooms at the end of October. There is no word on Australian pricing and final specifications yet. It will be announced in late 2020 probably. As the costs of the petrol version of Ghibli start at AUD 139,990 (plus on-road costs), you can be sure that the electric version would be costlier.

The launch of 2021 Maserati Ghibli Hybrid proves that hybrid cars are popular than ever before. For those who are unaware, the idea behind a hybrid car was to please the penny pinchers as they had lower running costs and were also environment-friendly as compared to petrol versions.
