VIRGIN GALACTIC UNVEILS THE LUXURIOUS INTERIOR OF ITS SPACESHIP CABIN
All passengers get state-of-the-art seats and spectacular views
Virgin Galactic has revealed the interior of VSS Unity, a Spaceship Two-vehicle via a YouTube video. The interior is luxuriously appealing despite Unity being the size of a midsize business jet and would appeal to anyone who travels in it. The company also released a free app that’s available on the Apple store.
Virgin Galactic Unity’s minimalist designed interior has six high-tech seats for the space tourists paying for the experience—and 12 impressive domed windows that allow stunning views of space and planet Earth, either from their seats or while floating in a weightless state.
Talking about the design, Sir Richard Branson said, “We built this spaceship from the inside out. We started with what we believed would be optimal customer experience and then built the spaceship around it. This cabin will allow thousands of people to realize their dreams of traveling in space.”
The seats of Unity are very attractive. Sharing the details, Jeremy Brown, the Chief Designer of Virgin Galactic, said, “They’re unlike any seats that have ever been designed before. They are designed so that the astronauts will be comfortable in both zero gravity and in 1G on the ground. The body will be subject to much higher G forces as Unity travels into space, so the seats are designed to hug in all the right places for a snug fit.”
Virgin Galactic designed the interior with the help of Seymourpowell, London. It has special colours for walls and seating. The one-piece spacesuits that are designed by Under Armour will be colour-coordinated with the interior. Beth Moses, the Chief Astronaut Instructor who travelled on Unity in February 2019, will be training the astronauts at the Virgin Galactic’s Space Centre in New Mexico.
Some other highlights of Unity by Virgin Galactic are LED lighting that changes colours based on the stage of the flight, the analog mirror that lets people see themselves floating and sixteen cameras that capture the entire experience of the crews and lets them relive the moment even when they are back on earth.
“The spaceship cabin interior is in many ways the design centerpiece of the astronaut journey,” said by Michael Colglazier, Virgin Galactic’s new CEO. “What has been created will both facilitate and elevate a uniquely profound and transformational journey for the thousands who will fly.”
Virgin Galactic hasn’t revealed the price of the experience of traveling in Unity, but the official website says it would cost more than USD 250,000 (approximately A$350,000). Two flights would be needed before the space experience becomes available to paying customers. So, if you are tired of international travel, and want an out of the world experience, you better have the money to pay for it and the patience to wait until Virgin Galactic lets you enjoy a ride to space.
