NETFLIX DOMINATES THE 72ND PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS WITH 160 NOMINATIONS
Ozark – Netflix

The 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards nominations have been released, and this 2020, streaming giant Netflix proved to be the cream of the crop as it garnered a record-breaking total of 160 nominations.

Netflix has titles such as The Crown, Hollywood and Ozark to thank for this impressive milestone, surpassing its rival HBO, which nabbed 107 nominations. This marks the second year that Netflix has bested the television network veteran — the first was in 2018 with Netflix accumulating 112 nods with HBO’s 108. HBO managed to take back the top spot and set a company record of 137 back in 2019 with the fanatasy drama, Game of Thrones.

Undeterred by coming in second, HBO’s Watchmen series leads with the highest amount of nominations for a primetime with 26 nods. It’s followed by Amazon’s Prime comedy, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel with 20 and Netflix is not far behind with Ozark with 18 nods.

Celebrities nominated this year include Steve Carrell and Jennifer Aniston for for The Morning Show, Zendaya for Euphoria, Giancarlo Esposito for Better Call Saul and The Mandalorian, Billy Porter for Pose, Thandie Newton for Westworld and Laverne Cox forOrange Is The New Black.
