Australian technology behemoth Atlassian has shared the plans to build the world’s tallest hybrid timber building in Sydney that will be its new headquarters. The building is expected to be about 40 storeys high, and it will be finished in 2025. It will be suitable for 4000 employees of the company. It’s also a part of the plans of the New South Wales government to develop a new precinct at the Central station that is expected to host about 25,000 workers.

It is estimated that Atlassian’s world’s tallest hybrid building will add about AUD 1 billion to the Aussie economy. The lower level of the building will have a revamped version of The Railway Square YHA. The building will also have heritage Parcels Shed at the YHA that used to dispatch parcels from Central between 1912 to the 1980s.

The Co-CEO and Co-Founder of Atlassian, Scott Farquhar talked about the world’s tallest hybrid timber building and said that the precinct would bring ideas, innovation, and jobs. He stated, “If you want to work in tech – this is the place you will want to be. Sydney has the potential to be one of the world’s leading technology cities, and the creation of a tech precinct sends a loud signal that we’re in the race to take a slice of the world’s most valuable market. That’s an exciting place to be.”

 

Atlassian’s world’s tallest hybrid building will be made by using timber and also have a glass and steel façade. It plans to have 50% fewer carbon emissions. 50% less energy consumption and will use 100% renewable energy.

Talking about the timing of Atlassian’s world’s tallest hybrid building, Farquhar said, “Projects like these will help the state and the nation bounce back from the massive impact of COVID-19.”

 

Atlassian’s world’s tallest hybrid building’s design will be overseen by New York-based SHoP Architects. Sydney practice BVN will serve as the building’s design team. When completed, the innovative project will join other reputed technology precincts like Sydney’s Startup Hub, which has Fishburners and Microsoft as its main tenants and was opened in 2018.
