Donald Trump Cameo Cut in Home Alone 2 Explained by CBC

The Canadian Broadcasting Corporation is currently under fire 

Donald Trump is one of the most powerful persons on the planet at the moment. So, anything that’s linked to him makes the headlines. He recently grabbed the headlines when his cameo was cut in a recent airing of Home Alone 2: Lost in New York. After severe criticism, the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation or CBC recently explained why the cameo was cut.

 

In an official statement by CBC, it was mentioned that the editing of the movie was done years before Donald Trump became the President of the US. Chuck Thompson, who heads the public affairs at CBC stated that the edits “were done in 2014 when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected president.” It must be added here that Trump announced his winning White House bid in 2015 and was inaugurated in January 2017.

Thompson also clarified that the cutting of Donald Trump’s scene was done because the scene was not integral to the plot. About eight minutes of such scenes were cut to fit in more commercials. Thompson stated “As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited for time. The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot.”

 

After the film was aired on CBC, pro-Trump media sources, such as the Fox News morning show “Fox & Friends” highlighted the issue. They called it a “censorship.” Trump also talked about the matter via Twitter and said that Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau was responsible for the cut. Trump tweeted: “I guess Justin T doesn’t much like my making him pay up on NATO or Trade!”

The US President also added “The movie will never be the same! (just kidding).”

 

Even Donald Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., used Twitter to share his opinion. He tweeted “‘Pathetic’: Canada’s CBC under fire when Trump’s cameo in ‘Home Alone 2’ disappears from Christmas broadcast”

Donald Trump has been known to demand cameos in movies that feature his properties. It will be interesting to see whether he will cool down after CBC’s explanation or would escalate the issue further.
