Elon Musk announced on Friday that Twitter will now give a portion of its ad revenue to eligible users who have subscribed to Twitter Blue Verified. The tech billionaire stated that ads appearing in the reply threads of these users will generate revenue for them, but did not offer further details on how the program would function.

Twitter already provides various monetization options, such as Super Follows and Tips. “Twitter will now share ad revenue with creators for ads appearing in their reply threads,” Musk tweeted. “To qualify, the account must have a subscription to Twitter Blue Verified.”

Twitter Blue is a premium subscription service that offers unique features and benefits. Subscribers receive a verified check mark, the ability to edit published tweets, and the option to upload videos up to 10 minutes long. The subscription fee is US$8 per month or US$84 per year for direct subscribers, while those subscribing through iOS pay US$11 per month.

Subscribers of Twitter Blue may potentially recoup the subscription cost through revenue generated from ads appearing in their reply threads. However, the specifics of the ad revenue program, such as the revenue share and payment methods, have not been disclosed by Musk or Twitter.

Musk reassured users that he and his team will be releasing more information about the ad revenue program in the near future.

“More to come on this front,” Musk tweeted. “Twitter needs to be where a creator is most highly rewarded for their time & talent.”
