The feud between Dwayne Johnson and Vin Diesel seems to be growing with time. Now, The Rock has been publicly asked to return for the Fast & Furious sequel by Vin Diesel. Helmed by Justin Lin, the film will be released on April 7, 2023, setting the stage for the eleventh and final film in the franchise. Vin Diesel, who played Agent Hobbs, will not return.

Fast & Furious feud

The two actors first shared the screen on the set of Fate of the Furious. At that time, tension was high. Though Johnson walked away from the series, Universal Pictures extended his role by making a spin-off film entitled Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw. Now, a sequel to Hobbs & Shaw is in development. It will probably continue the Fast & Furious brand even after the mainline series wraps up with the eleventh film.

As the franchise is ending, Universal Pictures wants to bring Johnson back to the finale. On his Instagram, Diesel posted a photo of himself and Johnson in Fast Five and asked Johnson to return for Fast & Furious 10. Diesel seems to play off a sense of family by letting Johnson know that his kids call him Uncle Dwayne and expressed that wanting to make the next film will be the right way to end the series for franchise star Paul Walker who passed away in 2013. He was in the middle of filming Fast & Furious 7.

In July this year, Johnson had confirmed that he would not reprise his role in Fats & Furious 10 and 11. He wished the best to the cast and crew of the film. Though stars like Tyrese Gibson have stated that the feud between himself and Johnson is over, Diesel comments a few months back gave a hint that there is still bad blood between the two stars. Ludacris, who also appears in the Fast & Furious franchise, described it as a “delicate situation.”

Even if Dwayne Johnson returns to the Fast & Furious films, he will likely do a cameo or a smaller role. Fans would even appreciate it if he came to bury the hatchet, and they get to see Luke Hobbs and Dominic Torreto as family one more time.
