Hafthor Bjornsson, The Mountain, Sets A New Deadlift World Record

Hafthor Bjornsson, Th Mountain on Game of Thrones, has set a new deadlift world record by lifting 501 kg (1,104 lbs).
Bjornsson, who portrayed Ser Gregor “The Mountain” Clegane in the HBO series is also known for his powerlifting, broke the world record at his gym in his native Iceland.
He lifted the barbell for two seconds, dropped the weights and roared in delight.
The powerlifting event was streamed by ESPN and was also filmed for Bjornsson’s YouTube channel.
Hafthor Bjornsson, who is standing 2.05m tall (6ft 9in), previously won the World’s Strongest Man title in 2018. ‘The Mountain’ has placed at least third in the competition every year since 2012. He’s also won the Arnold Strongman Classic title for the past three years.
Speaking in a BTS video posted on YouTube, Bjornsson stated: “I’m extremely proud, you know. I’m extremely happy.” He also shared his training regiment leading up to the record-breaking lift and posts other workout videos.

“It’s great – there’s nothing better than proving people wrong. So many people didn’t believe in me, so many people that said, ‘501 kg is never going to go up’… But I also had a lot of support.”
He also added: “I feel healthy, I feel good. I’m just absolutely speechless, even though I’m talking a lot now. But I’m excited, super excited – this is huge for me.”
Hafthor Bjornsson also posted it on his Instagram account and said, “I have no words. What an amazing day, one I will remember for the rest of my life” He added, “I said I was coming for it and once I set my mind on something I’m a dog with a bone. Want to give a huge shoutout to my family, friends, coaches, fans, sponsors and haters, all of whom helped this lift be possible.”
