Spoiler alert: This post contains major spoilers for the House of the Dragon Episode 7.

This week’s House of the Dragon episode was full of chaos and some genuinely unexpected development. Episode 7 started off grim, as we saw the deceased body being tumbled away in the sea and her brother not being able to let go. While one of her cousins is wasted inappropriately, another steals a dragon and gets into a fight with his half-nephews, breaking one’s nose and losing his own eye during the fight.

This leads to a dark family secret getting unsealed in front of the entire King’s council as the legitimacy of his only daughter’s sons comes into question. Of course, family gatherings in Westeros are rarely peaceful at all.

However, Episode 7 was indeed no less than a roller coaster ride. It was like an hour full of drama weaved so naturally that nothing felt too rushed. Along the way, we finally got what fans had been rooting for all this time. Daemon and Rhaenyra finally decide to get together and pair up on a beach.

But perhaps, it was more surprising that they both managed to pull off a destination wedding that had nobody get killed. Now that is something that seems quite uncommon in Westeros. Now it looks like Aegon is all set to be the heir in Otto’s eyes, who proudly stands by the Queen’s side after the death of the previous Hand of the King. Aegon the Ridiculous finally gets a chance to prove his worth, now that he has a mighty dragon on his side, even if he lost an eye in exchange.

Nevertheless, the King did not abandon his daughter despite listening to the accusation so plainly by his own son. Rather, he threatened that anyone that dared to question the legitimacy of Rhaenyra’s son will get their tongues removed. Honestly, it looks like the king is deep in denial at this point.

Paddy Considine is known for his remarkable acting skills and ability to display multiple emotions at the same time. This shows up in his performance as King Viserys, as we see the King going through multiple emotions all at once. As his anger and frustration as the king fades away, we see desperation on his face as he struggles to maintain unity in his family. He realizes that with him gone, his family would be ready to slaughter each other, and unfortunately, there would be no one to stop that. The only thing the king fears is seeing his legacy washed and the House Targaryen setting itself up for a fall.

This time, it looks like it is Otto who is playing the throne game in House of the Dragon, and that is the big narrative that the story is focusing on. It was also quite odd how Alicent charged at Rhaenyra with a dagger in her hand. Of course, a parent might become too emotionally disfigured after seeing her child lose an eye. However,

Alicent charging at someone with a weapon was a huge exception in House of the Dragon. Although, her crazy demand of an eye for an eye was still somewhat believable, and many would say that it was just an emotional response or that she didn’t really mean it. But that has now sparked the drama and rivalry between Rhaenyra and Alicent.

This confrontation looks like a foreshadowing of all the wars and wrath that the two women are gearing up to unleash on each other. This certainly makes things a lot more interesting, as the first few episodes of House of the Dragon were quite slow.

Another highlight of House of the Dragon this week was Laenor finally getting freedom and planting his own murder, masterminded by Rhaenyra and Daemon. However, his unfortunate parents think that they have just lost another dear child. Quite tragic for the couple, if anything. At this point, House Velaryon seems to be in quite a fragile position.

And that is what Episode 7 of House of the Dragon was all about. As we can tell, things are heating up between Alicent and Rhaenyra really fast. Now that Rhaenyra has Daemon on her side, fans are incredibly excited for what is to become of the rivalry between the two women.
