Monster: Ryan Murphy Anthology series is undoubtedly a huge success. The series is set to reach one billion view hours in the coming weeks and was recently renewed by Netflix. Two more seasons of the show are planned as of now. However, the next two seasons will chronicle the lives of other serial killers, not Jeffrey Dahmer.

Netflix has obviously made a smart decision by renewing the show. It has already received 900 million view hours, says the streamer. It makes it one of the most-watched English-language shows to premiere on the platform ever.

In addition to announcing the second season of the crime thriller, Netflix also announced the second season of The Watcher. It’s another disturbing thriller series that premiered in mid-October. The head of Global TV at Netflix, Bela Bajaria, celebrated both series’ success and praised the creators’ work by saying:

“Audiences can’t take their eyes off ‘Monster’ and ‘The Watcher’. The creative team of Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan on Monster along with Eric Newman on ‘The Watcher’ are masterful storytellers who captivated audiences all over the world. The back-to-back force of these two series is due to Ryan’s distinct original voice which created cultural sensations and we are thrilled to continue telling stories in the Monster and Watcher universes.”

Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story was created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Interestingly, both have developed other shows like Hollywood, The Politician, and Ratched.

The success of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story comes with its share of controversy. It sparked discussion about its profiting off real-life tragedies. Several people have highlighted that the series should have represented Dahmer’s victims.

Though there is no word yet on which serial killers will feature in the new seasons, some people speculate that the new seasons might include the likes of Ted Bundy or John Wayne Gacy. The news of new seasons for Monster has received a mixed response. Some people have criticised the move on social media.

One user said, “How are they still not understanding that just because you can do something DOESN’T mean you should.” Another stated, “BRO WHAT??? WHY DON’T JUST LEAVE IT AT SEASON 1?” and a third commented: “This show was an awful idea from the start.

Another said, “They shouldn’t be glorifying mass murders. Not a coincidence that none of the victims’ families wanted anything to do with this.” The dates for renewed seasons of Monster and The Watcher have yet to be announced by Netflix.

Read the official synopsis of Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story below:

Between 1978 and 1991, Jeffrey Dahmer gruesomely took the lives of seventeen innocent victims. DAHMER – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is a series that exposes these unconscionable crimes, centered around the underserved victims and their communities impacted by the systemic racism and institutional failures of the police that allowed one of America’s most notorious serial killers to continue his murderous spree in plain sight for over a decade.
