An engineer from the popular electric hyper car brand Rimac has recently shared that achieving a speed of 0-100km/h in less than one second might be possible in the future. The engineer said that its world record (Rimac Nevera) of zero-to-100km/h time in just 2.1 seconds could be halved in the future if the company can build a car capable of the task.

In an interview, Rimac’s chief engineer, Matija Renić, was asked what acceleration times could be achieved. The response was “Below one second.”

If Rimac manages to make a car that can accelerate this quickly, the person behind the wheel will experience g-forces of approximately 2.8G. It will probably force them back into the seat with about three times their body weight. Astronauts are subjected to approximately 3G on take-off, while the drivers of Top Fuel drag racers endure 4G for over four seconds during the top-speed runs.

It is also a fact that the world’s fastest drag cars can go from zero to 160km/h in eight-tenths of a second, thanks to their 7000kW-plus supercharged V8 engines, bespoke, grippy tyres, and aerodynamic bodies. All these features aren’t found in road cars.

Renić also said that while the Rimac Nevera’s record acceleration time and outputs of 1427kW/2360Nm are an obvious talking point, the electric hypercar is not just focused on straight-line speed. He said, “The car is very fast, honestly. Figures here and there, we are very proud of them, but the car is more than that. It’s not a one-trick pony, it’s not a dragster that you take to the drag strip and achieve the best times, and that’s it. The car is actually very, very complex, showing you what automotive technology in the future can do.”

He added, “And it’s also very usable and very friendly from the user’s perspective. And in the end, what we wanted to achieve is develop a driver’s car, something that’s very engaging and very rewarding just taking it out and enjoying it.” What do you think of Renić’s opinion? Will Rimac achieve this feat soon?
