Previously, there were reports about Amazon being in talks with MGM to take ownership of the film and TV company. Now, the firm has got sold for US$8.45 billion (AU$10.9 billion). Indeed, for Amazon, this acquisition is going to make a significant impact.

 

Due to the acquisition of MGM, Amazon will now be able to more attract viewers from other streaming services.

MGM is quite notable for being the studio behind many hit releases. For instance, this is the studio that helped create the Rocky and James Bond franchise. Apart from that, the studio has also released several hit films such as 12 Angry Men. Along with that, it has also produced many modern shows such as Vikings and The Handmaid’s Tale.

 

Amazon acquires MGM

According to speculators, the acquisition of MGM by Amazon is a good thing. After all, this may increase the accessibility of the wonderful work done by MGM. At the same time, Amazon may also empower MGM to continue the unmatched storytelling.

Reports of Amazon being in talks surfaced in the mid-May of 2021. However, nobody had an idea that it would happen so soon. News broke out only when the deal was about to get closed. Though some news states that the information has been around since last December.

 

MGM is owned by some private equity firms. These include Souls Alternative Asset Management, Highland Capital Management, and Anchorage Capital Group.

 

Currently, companies and streaming services are trying to compete with the industry giant, Netflix. Hence, streaming services are trying their best to fill their libraries up. For instance, WarnerMedia just merged with Discovery to create the second-largest firm by revenue in the world of Media.

While both these companies have separate streaming services i.e., Discovery Plus and HBO Max. Though, both can be combined into a single service, hence improving the overall quality of the service as well.

 

In other news, Money Heist Season 5 release dates just surfaced. With that, the show will be divided into two volumes, both of which will be released a month apart. Indeed, it is one of the most anticipated shows these days.
