When it comes to the arena of electric cars, the competition seems to be intensifying. The latest addition to the companies competing in this arena could be Dodge. As per reports, the subsidiary of the US-based firm Stellantis is working on a secret electric muscle car. This top-secret project aims to build a car that can get the quarter-mile sprint record back from a key competitor, Tesla. Elon Musk’s company recently revealed the Model S Plaid.

Though the details of this new vehicle from Dodge are quite scarce, as it is a top-secret project, the vehicle will likely wear the Challenger nameplate.

The 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Demon that had a 6.2 litre supercharged V8 engine earlier had the record of the quarter-mile sprint. Its time was just 9.65 seconds when it was using high-octane fuel. This record was snatched by Tesla Model S Plaid earlier this month as it managed to complete the sprint in a new record claim of 9.23 seconds.

It is also being reported that the launch of the new vehicle by Dodge will be at the same time as the next-generation Challenger and Charger, both of which are powered by petrol. They are expected to be launched in late 2022 or the first half of 2023.

In addition to an electric muscle car, Dodge is also reportedly working on six other vehicles (it could be more). One of those is a new and improved zero-emissions version of the Ram 1500 pick-up.

It will not be wrong to say that Dodge has been a little late in entering the electric vehicle arena. The company had been an outlier in the last few years while its key competitors like Tesla have invested heavily in electric vehicle development. During all this time, Dodge was just focused on the V8-powered performance line-up.

As it is better to be late than never, Dodge is definitely catching up. It is focusing on electric vehicles while also giving ample attention to pushing the boundaries of street-going performance. Certainly, this combination is deadly. To make things more interesting, Apple Car is also in the works.
