Lauded as the world’s greatest supercar, Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50 is finally here, and it resembles the iconic McLaren F1 road car that was designed by the 74-year-old legendary former Formula One designer in the 1990s. It will be his last analogue supercar, which means that he might switch to electric cars in the future.

Though Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50 will make people think of the original McLaren F1 supercar, it has a Speed tail that is heavier, bigger and more complicated. The new car also has a hybrid powertrain and a top speed of 400km per hour. It is also longer than the previous one, 4352mm as compared to 4287, and the 2700mm wheelbase is 18mm shorter than the previous car.

The design of the original McLaren F1 supercar has clearly impacted Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50, especially in the front as it also has a low windscreen line and a broad valley is present between the headlights. The Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50 has gull-wing doors and a similarly small opening panel that is situated within a large side window frame.

Additionally, the skin of the doors of Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50 contains bigger cuts to channel air, and the intake snorkel that is situated on the roof is narrower. It is also flanked by glazed panels that might make anyone in the cabin feel like they are in the cockpit of a fighter jet.

The Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50 also has a 400mm diameter vent for a 48-volt fan that is powering the vehicle’s aerodynamics. Murray has acknowledged that the car won’t make it to the top when it comes to top speed, aerodynamic downforce and power.

Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50 also has no big wings, no turbos and no whizz-bang twin-clutch gearbox. But it does have a naturally aspirated 3.9-litre V12 that comes with a ludicrous redline of 12,100rpm, a proper six-speed manual gearbox and a 48-volt electric active aero system.

Gordon Murray’s GMA T.50 will weigh about 986 kgs, and Murray says that the new vehicle would be more accessible to drive as compared to the original McLaren F1. About 100 examples of the car will be built, and it’s scheduled for delivery in 2022. It will cost AUD 4.33 million before taxes. When AUD 215,000 import duty, AUD 430,000 GST and AUD 1.4 million of luxury car tax are added, the total price would be about AUD 6.35 million.

Elsewhere in the supercar world, the Lamborghini Essenza SCV12 limited edition was launched earlier.
