THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY SHOWRUNNER TALKS ABOUT THAT ENDING AND THE FUTURE
THE UMBRELLA ACADEMY SEASON 2 – NETFLIX

Season 2 of The Umbrella Academy ended on a high note, and not many people guessed so much would happen in one episode. If you are also a fan and you need to know more about it and the show’s future without worrying about the spoilers then do read on. Here are some insights on the ending provided by none other than the showrunner, Steve Blackman.

Warning: Spoliers ahead!

Highlighting the Comic Parallels

When highlighting the comic parallels, Steve Blackman said that he is still in the comic territory when it comes to creating The Umbrella Academy show. Examples of the same include the reveal of Hargreeves as an alien, and it’s a good guess that the members of the Sparrow Academy in silhouette are the characters that appeared in Volume 3 of the comic. So, those of you who have read Hotel Oblivion have a better idea of what’s in store for the next season(s).

Talking About Ben’s Return

There is no doubt about the fact that it was Ben at the end of the second season of The Umbrella Academy with a new scar and different hair. It is the real Ben with whom the members of The Umbrella Academy grew up. It isn’t any alternate dimension or any such weird thing. Something has changed as Ben, and their father have apparently survived in 2019. Obviously, this great news for Justin H. Min, who played Ben where it seemed like he’d be written off the series after his ghost disintegrated while saving his sister, Vanya. Blackman said, “This is an opportunity for the show and the actor to really expand his universe on screen”.

Revealing About Key Characters

Blackman also talked about key characters of The Umbrella Academy. Lila would most likely return in the next season(s). Harlan would most likely have some of Vanya’s power, and he will likely be a full-grown man, but Blackman hasn’t revealed anything yet. However, Blackman did reveal about the Handler’s fate in The Umbrella Academy. He said that her character would end in the show. He also confirmed that new characters stuck in the past like Sissy and Ray wouldn’t return for the future seasons.

Plans for Season 3

Though Netflix hasn’t given the green light for the third season of The Umbrella Academy, the show will likely return. Talking about it, Blackman said “Well, I don’t wanna give anything away. If we’re lucky enough to get a Season 3, I know what it is. I already have a plan for it, in my mind. I know the beginning, middle and end of Season 3. I know it’s gonna be a very challenging season for them. Clearly, the Umbrella Academy is no more and their brother, who should be deceased, is standing right in front of them. So, I think there’s gonna be some changes. And Hargreeves, who should be dead, is alive. I don’t wanna give anything away, but it will be obviously be a fun and tragic season for them to understand what’s happening and how it came to be.”
