Finland Gets Votes for the Happiest Country for the Fifth Time
Finland is the happiest country in the world again.

Who would not want to live in the happiest country in the world? Well, if that’s what you are aiming for, Finland might be the perfect spot. According to another recently released World Happiness Report by the United Nations, Finland and some other Scandinavian countries are among the top happiest countries in the world. And for the fifth time, Finland gets the first spot!

This report by the United Nations is based on several factors that include gross domestic product, Gallup World Poll, and life expectancy. For instance, health care is free in Finland, and the poverty levels are quite low. Furthermore, the country is full of natural beauty that contributes to its success.

Three acts of kindness were also examined in the report that influenced global happiness in the current year. The list included volunteering time, help for strangers, and charity donations. Among all these, engagements have overall increased throughout the world.

An increase of 25% was recorded in the number of people who claimed to have engaged in these activities as compared with data before the pandemic. The 2022 rankings were edited by John F. Helliwell, who is a professor of Economics at the University of British Columbia.

Other than Finland being the happiest country on the 1st spot, other qualifiers include:

Denmark

Iceland

Switzerland

Netherlands

Luxembourg

Sweden

Norway

Israel

New Zealand

Gallup World Poll is among the variables that have been used for the rankings. The pollsters have asked various participants from all over the world about their thoughts on ‘feeling at peace’ and ‘balance’. Out of 146 countries, the United Kingdom ended in 17th place, narrowly losing to the United States.

However, it is important to note that this happiest country list was generated before the Russian invasion of Ukraine. Among the last 5 rankings for the happiest country, Finland has achieved the first spot. So, the invasion of Ukraine may not affect the spot of Finland on the list. However, it can certainly influence other countries.

While the happiest country rankings may not be free from error, they are based on generalized data and hence do not represent the individual experiences of all citizens.
