About ten days ago, George Floyd, a black man, was murdered at the hands of a Minneapolis police officer and the brutality was shot by a passer-by. This small clip was enough to set various parts of the US on fire and begin the movement- #BlackLivesMatter to the forefront. Kayne West, one of the most popular rappers of the country, had been unusually quiet about the entire matter.

Finally, Kayne West decided to end his silence on the matter and did it with generosity. One of the representatives of the rapper has announced that Kayne West has donated USD 2 (about $3.06 AUD) million to charities associated with George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaoud Arbery. He has even set up a college fund for George Floyd’s daughter Gianna who is just 6 years old at the moment.

In addition to helping charities associated with George Floyd and other victims of violence, Kayne West will also cover the legal fee for Arbery and Taylor families. He will also contribute to help black-owned businesses in Chicago that are facing financial issues at the moment.

Shortly after the announcement regarding helping charities associated with George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaoud Arbery, Kayne West made a public appearance as he joined protestors who were marching on Chicago’s South Side.

Though many celebrities react to George Floyd’s death already, Kayne West is yet to make a public statement or show his outrage on the social media platforms. It is not usual for him as the rapper has faced a lot of pressure in the past for criticizing Donald Trump, the current US President.

In a recent interview, Kayne West had shared the viewpoint behind his political beliefs when he said “We know who I’m voting on. And I’m not going to be told by the people around me and the people that have their agenda that my career is going to be over… That’s like if Obama’s campaign was ‘I’m with black.’ What’s the point of being a celebrity if you can’t have an opinion? Everybody make their own opinion! You know?”

Though USD 2 (about $3.06 AUD) million might sound a big amount to many people, including George Floyd’s family, the money is not a big amount for Kayne West who was declared a billionaire recently. He is currently working on a new album, God’s Country.
