One of the most popular partnerships across the world just got a little more interesting as Richard Mille, and McLaren unveiled their latest creation. Named as the RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail, it is the most extreme timepiece of the watchmaker. Only 106 pieces of the unique watch will be releaased.

McLaren Speedtail went into production last year, and it is considered the most technologically advanced road car from the automaker. It can go from zero to 186 mph (about 299kmph) in just 12.6 seconds and has a top speed of 250 mph (about 402 kmph). Richard Mille has tried to match those high standards with the help of RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail.

The RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail has a teardrop design that was perfected for 18 months. The case of the Richard Mille watch has 69 different parts, and it is wider at 12 o’clock as compared to 6 o’clock. Another thing that makes it an amazing case band that is made from Richard Mille’s Carbon TPT. It also has a titanium bezel, a case back, and an asymmetrical strap that also has an orange accent at 6 o’clock.

The engine that powers the RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail was developed by working for 8,600 hours. The in-house movement of the Richard Mille watch has 37 jewels and Grade 5 titanium bridges. It also has a roto core, a baseplate, and bridge crews. The power reserve indicator is placed at 9 o’clock. It also has oversize date and function selector complications that are expected from the Richard Mille brand.

McLaren Automotive’s design director, Rob Melville, stated that the RM 40-01 Automatic Tourbillon McLaren Speedtail demonstrates why the two brands were ideal partners. He said, “Richard Mille watches are known as ‘racing machines on the wrist,’ and that’s supported by the fact that there are so many similarities in the way we approach a problem, such as saving weight, reducing vibrational impact, and minimizing resistance. When it came to the RM 40-01, we had considerable input in sharing the highlights of the car and the philosophy behind it. With the Speedtail, we set out to produce a car that had an artistic quality to it. That has certainly come through in the watch, which beautifully mirrors the many various details of the Speedtail in its finish, materials, and its uncompromising design.” Speaking of designer watches, do have a look at the record-breaking rare Patek Philippe as well.
