The first electric UTE has rolled off the production line of Rivian in Illinois, USA. It won the race against Ford’s F-150 Lightning and Tesla’s CyberTruck. It has once again proven that while some brands talk and brag a lot, others perform.

The founder of Rivian, RJ Scaringe, stated on Twitter “After months of building pre-production vehicles, this morning our first customer vehicle drove off our production line in Normal! Our team’s collective efforts have made this moment possible. Can’t wait to get these into the hands of our customers!”

Rivian is backed by some of the biggest companies and investment firms in the world. Amazon and Ford have both invested in the company. The latter also has a standing order for 100,000 specially built electric delivery vans that will help the green drive of the company.

Scaringe also said that the company’s latest funding round that was held in July helped with getting the cash injection required to scale new vehicles, start vehicle production, and fuel international growth.

The first electric UTE could launch in Australia as well. In 2019, Chris Wollen, a Rivian spokesperson had stated, “We know that there’s markets that will be into these vehicles and the adventure positioning and Australia fits that perfectly. We know we’re nicely suited for Australia, so it’s an important market for us.”

R1T and R1S are both underpinned by an all-electric skateboard platform that offer up to 644km thanks to a 180kWh battery back that is meant for the dual-cab Ute. They offer 483km from a single charge for a seven-seat SUV.

The four electric motors are expected to deliver the 0-100km/h sprint in just three seconds. They have 550kW of power and 1124Nm of torque. Both, the 2022 Rivian R1T and Rivian R1S will begin customer deliveries from January 2022. The exact date and pricing details for the Australian market are not out yet.
