Squid Game Season 2 In the Works? Here’s What You Need to Know

The surprise hit Korean drama follows a deadly battle royale for millions of dollars.

Will there be a Squid Game season 2?

Squid Game has surprisingly become one of the most popular Netflix series of this year. It premiered on September 17 and rose to the number one spot quickly. The viral show is not an easy binge as it has graphic violence and huge moral dilemmas, but it has got people talking. Things have progressed so far that fans are demanding a season 2 of the series. Here’s what you need to know about those plans.

What Will Squid Game Season 2 Be All About?

In season 2, we might see Gi-hun trying to stop the game from ever happening again. Season 1 of Squid Game left that possibility as in the final episode, we can see Gi-hun, the winner of the game, heading to the airport to visit his daughter when he realizes that the recruitment for the game is still on and decides to put a stop to it.

Will Netflix Agree to a Season 2?

It is likely that Netflix will agree to another season for the K-drama. It hasn’t said anything about another instalment of Squid Game yet, but it has listed the show as a seasonal series, not just a limited one. The streamer has agreed to multiple seasons of K-dramas like Kingdom and Love Alarm in the past.

Will Squid Game Have a New Cast?

Given the fact that many of the key players died in season 1, season 2 would likely have a new cast. However, some members might reappear in the next season of Squid Game. Gi-hun will obviously return to play the game again or stop it completely. Police Detective Hwang Jun-Ho might also return for season 2. In season 1, he investigated the game from the inside while he also looked for his missing brother. He was shot by his brother (the front man), but his death was not confirmed.

Director’s Take

In an interview, the director of Squid Game stated that he is not in a rush to do another season. It took him six months to write the first two episodes of the series as writing it was harder than the usual work he does. He said, “I don’t have well-developed plans for ‘Squid Game 2.’ It is quite tiring just thinking about it. But if I were to do it, I would certainly not do it alone. I’d consider using a writers’ room and would want multiple experienced directors.” We think that Netflix might be more eager to get season 2 sooner than later as it’s a money-maker.
