Aussies have finally gotten the green light from the European Union to travel to member nations as the local authorities have announced our country as “safe.” On Tuesday morning, it was announced that citizens of some nations would be allowed entry into EU nations from July 1.

The safelist by the European Union excludes many prominent nations like the US, India, and Brazil, where the number of COVID-19 cases are increasing at a rapid pace. The European Union has also dropped the travel restrictions that were imposed on other member states. So, the European citizens can move within a 27-member block.

The decision to allow travel was made based on how a country is doing to manage the pandemic. The members of the EU spoke anonymously as the procedure is still politically sensitive and ongoing. In addition to Australia, 17 other nations are allowed to enter EU nations again. It includes countries like Japan, Canada, New Zealand, Rwanda, and Thailand.

The decision on whether China should be included in the list prepared by the European Union depends on whether Beijing opens up its borders for travel from Europe or not. The European Union will review the safe list every fortnight.

It has been three months since the EU plus Norway, Iceland, Switzerland, and Liechtenstein decided to close the external borders to all non-essential travel due to COVID-19.

If this news has motivated you to explore luxury escapes (like the Palace of Versailles in France), then you should know that the Federal Government’s international ban is still on and only exceptions are made and that too after the approval from the Department of Home Affairs. Also, Qantas and IATA have predicted that international travel and flights won’t be returning to normal for a long time.

So, if you are excited about a European vacation just because the European Union is allowing Aussies again, you better not make a decision in haste and see how our government is planning to open up its borders before you book the hotels!
