People were still thinking about how awesome AirPods Pro sounds when the news started leaking that the company will launch two cool augmented reality devices soon. According to reports from The Information, it plans to launch AR headset in 2022 and AR glasses in 2023. The announcement was made by the CEO of the company Tim Cook during an internal meeting that was attended by about 1,000 staff members.

Delving into specifics, it is speculated that the augmented headsets are named N301 for now. They will look like sleeker Oculus Quest. The headsets will have a series of cameras that will capture reality and then mix elements of the virtual world into it. You will need to navigate a high-resolution display that would have the ability to detect other humans and some cool 3-D mapping capabilities.

The headsets would be launched in 2022, and a year later, they would be joined by lighter weight augmented reality glasses that you can wear all day. Named as N421 for now, these are called sunglasses with thick frames by Apple. They will have all the electronics encased inside.

It is being speculated that if Apple pulls off these augmented reality glasses and headsets and they become popular, they might replace the smartphones, even the iPhone 11 soon. To be precise, Apple estimates that the augmented reality devices might negate the need to carry iPhones in about a decade.

Bloomberg corroborated the story by The Information by stating that Apple has recently decided to delay the release of headset product it was planning. The release has been postponed from 2020 release to as of yet unspecified date. It was stated that AR/VR headsets would be focused on watching videos, virtual meetings and gaming.

Both the augmented reality devices would use the new 3D sensor system, an advanced version of the Face ID camera present in iPhones and iPad Pro.

What do you think of Apple’s plans to launch two cool augmented reality devices? Would they really replace the smartphones and would you be happy with this change?
