According to the Henley Passport Index that measures the most travel-friendly passports of the world, Japan has the most powerful passport at the moment. It allows a person to get visa-free access to 191 countries. Singapore could have been the country with the most powerful passport if it gave access to just two more countries. It offers access to 190 nations right now.

 

Germany and South Korea got the third spot on the list as they offer visa-free access to 189 countries. Here is the list of top 10 passports in which Japan leads with the most powerful passport.

2. Singapore – 190 destinations

3. South Korea, Germany – 189 destinations

4. Italy, Finland – 188 destinations

5. Spain, Luxembourg, Denmark – 187 destinations

6. Sweden, France – 186 destinations

7. Switzerland, Portugal, Netherlands, Ireland, Austria – 185 destinations

8. United States, United Kingdom, Norway, Greece, Belgium – 184 destinations

9. New Zealand, Malta, Czech Republic, Canada, Australia – 183 destinations

10. Slovakia, Lithuania, Hungary – 181 destinations

 

How Powerful is an Australian Passport?

Here’s how Australia has performed on the list. It can take a traveller to 183 nations so, it’s on number 9 when it comes to the most powerful passports. It has climbed one spot when compared to the last ranking. Though Australian passport is far from being the most powerful passport, a traveller who has an Australian passport can travel to Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Fiji, New Zealand, and all European countries, among others. An ETA- Electronic Travel Authority is needed for travelling to countries like the US, Puerto Rico, Canada, and Sri Lanka, among others. Visa on arrival is available for countries like Nepal, Maldives, Iran, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Lebanon, Bangladesh and many others.
