Twitter Moves Forward with Bitcoin Tips and Goes Beyond Creators
Twitter now accepts Bitcoin as payment.

It looks like Twitter is also finally entering the world of blockchain. On Thursday, the micro-blogging website announced that users around the globe would be able to start posting their bitcoin wallets on their profiles.

Along with that, some user accounts might also be able to integrate a bitcoin payment app within their profiles. The crypto and bitcoin payments option to Twitter through Tips came out after a rollout of a similar feature globally to iOS users. However, a feature for Android users is yet to come out, although it is promised for the future.

Regarding sending and receiving Bitcoin Tips, the creator monetization product lead at Twitter, Esther Crawford, stated, “People will be able to add a bitcoin lightning wallet or their bitcoin address to send and receive bitcoin Tips beginning today.”

According to a blog post by Twitter, all U.S users except those from New York and Hawaii will be able to use the Strike app for receiving or sending bitcoin via the lightning network. Furthermore, it is also now possible for these users to add bitcoin addresses.

So, in a way, Twitter is not facilitating crypto transactions directly through its platform. Instead, it is bringing in other services that essentially do the same thing. It is quite interesting that the Square cash app founded by Jack Dorsey (the CEO of Twitter) also allows the sale and purchase of Bitcoin.

Other than the company’s decision to explore Bitcoin and crypto, Crawford also mentions that Twitter is also looking into NFTs. Regarding this, she stated, “It’s a way to support creators making this art with a stamp to demonstrate authenticity. By allowing people to directly connect their crypto wallets, they can track and showcase their NFT ownership on Twitter.”

However, Twitter has not given enough clarity on what she meant by this. Though, we are certainly sure that Twitter is also going to embrace NFTs. After all, Bitcoin seems to have been embraced already. So, it makes sense for the company to open yet another blockchain realm.
