As many people had guessed, iPhone 12 has many variations, iPhone 12, iPhone 12 Mini, iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max. The entire range not just has 5G but also has a smart data mode. It means that the devices will automatically drop back to 4G if there is a need to save battery. The design has also changed this time. Apple has aimed at a flatter look and let go of the curved edges. Most devices also have better screen real estate and are slimmer and lighter than in previous years.

The iPhone 12 range also has a new Ceramic Shield tech which has been co-developed with Gorilla Glass to ensure that it is tougher and more drop resistant. What makes it exceptional under the hood is the latest A14 Bionic chip from Apple that improves the performance by 50 per cent as it has 70 per cent faster machine learning capabilities and 40 per cent more transistors. The night mode photography feature is also extraordinary.

 

The rumours regarding wired headphones and power adaptors were true. Adapters are being removed to keep in line with the company’s carbon-neutral 2030 policy. Users will still get a power cable that will not be a lightning cable but instead a new USB-C to lightning cable.

The OG iPhone 12 comes with 5G and an impressive OLED display. It also has a new dual-camera 12MP wide setup, 12MP ultra-wide setup and 120-degree field of view. It also comes with a 7-element lens that will likely improve the lowlight performance of the device. The price will start at AUD 1,349 and pre-orders will begin from Friday, October 16, 2020, 11 PM. The device will go on sale on Friday, October 23, 2020

This year Apple has added a Mini device to the line-up, and the smaller package seems attractive. It has a smaller battery, but most of the other specs are the same. It will cost AUD 1,199 the pre-orders will start on Saturday, November 7, 2020. It will go on sale on Friday, November 13, 2020.

iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone 12 Pro Max

The iPhone 12 Pro series is meant for people who want to kick it up a notch. The Pro comes with a 2.5x optical zoom while Pro Max has a 4x optical zoom. As per Apple, the iPhone 12 Pro camera has 87 per cent better low light performance as compared to the previous generation. There is also a small difference in the telephoto lenses in both the phones.

 

Both iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max have a new ProRAW image format and LiDAR support. The former will not roll out until later this year. It will combine RAW photo format with multi-frame image processing via computational photography which means that the layers of photo data would be held separately from one another. ProRAW will then let a user get control over and edit these separate elements (like dynamic range and tone mapping) natively by using the iPhone camera app.

iPhone 12 Pro and Pro Max will record in HDR and support Dolby Vision as well. They will be able to shoot in 4K at 60 fps. The iPhone 12 Pro will start at AUD 1,699. Its pre-orders will begin on Friday, October 16, 2020, at 11 PM and it will go on sale from Friday, October 23, 2020. In contrast, the pricing of iPhone 12 Pro Max will start at AUD 1,849, and the pre-orders will start on Saturday, November 7, 2020, at midnight. The device will go on sale on Friday, November 13, 2020.
