While Disney might prefer returning to the theatres, many people would rather watch their favourite movies at home due to the ongoing pandemic. So, if you are among them, you will not have to wait this time around. The company is celebrating the second Disney+ anniversary by letting users stream Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings on the platform on 12th November without any additional charges.

The film is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, who is also the person behind some top movies like The Glass Castle, Just Mercy, and Short Term.

Previously, Disney did state that the theatrical window of Shang-Chi would be halved. So, the news of the movie streaming on Disney+ is not too surprising. However, fans can now take some relief as an exact date has been announced.

Around that time, a larger number of people are going to get access to Shang-Chi. That is because Disney+ is expected to release in Taiwan and South Korea on the same day. Furthermore, users in Hong Kong will get access by 16th November.

Previously, Disney+ expanded itself to Thailand, Singapore, and Malaysia as well. So, the upcoming expansion seems to be another big step for the streaming service.

Shang-Chi is not the only movie that users are going to gain access to. Instead, users will also get access to extra content from some of their most favourite shows. On top of that, a brand-new Home Alone movie titled Home Sweet Home Alone will also release on the platform alongside Shang-Chi.

It looks like all the releases that Disney+ has planned out for the big day are going to take away plenty of profit from the upcoming high-profile releases by Netflix and Amazon. Furthermore, it shall help Disney+ in maintaining the right level of momentum through the remaining part of the year.

Currently, the Shang-Chi has not premiered in China, where the film is still pending government approval. Once that happens, it is expected to gross way over AU $420 million. Since the film is earning a coin already, it makes sense for Disney+ to bathe itself in the ongoing hype.

Aside from Shang-Chi, other Disney+ Day releases will include the following:

  • The first five episodes of The World According to Jeff Goldblum season 2
  • A new short starring The Simpsons characters paying tribute to Disney+’s marquee brands
  • A new series of shorts titled Olaf Presents
  • A new short animated by Pixar titled Ciao Alberto starring characters from Luca
  • As well as the streaming debut of “beloved and award-winning shorts” such as Frozen Fever, Paperman, Get A Horse!, & more
