Why Did Drake Withdraw His 2022 Grammy Nominations?

Drake was up for two Grammy awards at the forthcoming 2022 ceremony on Monday. He was nominated for Bes Rap Performance for Way 2 Sexy and Best Rap Album for Certified Lover Boy. Now, the singing sensation has withdrawn his Grammy nominations.
No explanation for his decision was shared, but Variety noted that “the decision was made by Drake and his management, and the Grammys honoured the request.” This doesn’t answer why he put his work for Grammy awards consideration if he wanted to pull out after getting nominated.
The reason for taking back his Grammy nominations couldn’t be because he didn’t get nominated in major categories like Album of the Year. After all, he never submitted himself for consideration. Drake likely withdrew his nominations because he wanted to lay low after his involvement in the Astroworld tragedy that led to the deaths of 10 people. Drake made a guest appearance at the event and is named in several lawsuits pertaining to that event. Maybe he thinks that a potential Grammy win a few months after the tragedy would be in bad taste.
Drake has also had a bad history with the awards show in the last few years. It can also be the reason behind withdrawing his Grammy nominations. In 2021, after The Weeknd was snubbed, the star called for the Grammys to be replaced with “something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.”
In an Instagram story, Drake wrote, “I think we should stop allowing ourselves to be shocked every year by the disconnect between impactful music and these awards and just accept that what once was the highest form of recognition may no longer matter to the artist that exist now and the ones that come after. It’s like a relative you keep expecting to fix up, but they just won’t change their ways. The other day I said @theweeknd was a lock for either album or song of the year along with countless other reasonable assumptions, and it just never goes that way. This is a great time for somebody to start something new that we can build up over time and pass on to the generations to come.” New nominations won’t happen as he has waited too long to withdraw the Grammy nominations. The award will go to one of the stars that are already nominated.
